Kleenex Funeral Bouquet, 2020

Created during my residency at Silver Arts at the World Trade Center in New York, this work intertwines the utility of tissues—objects meant to absorb tears of grief—with the longstanding tradition of sending flowers as condolences. The bouquet became more than symbolic: not long after its creation, it was brought into the very real space of mourning, used during a friend’s memorial service after they had seen the piece in person and passed away unexpectedly.
